Now where has this gone? it certainly left me in suprise.

And one thing I forgot to try is the short cut key for the snippet manager. That is: Ctrl+K - Ctrl+B
I hope its still living inside!!!!
I will be presenting a short session on "Visual Studio Tips & Tricks", which is part 1 of a series of presentations on this topic. Wela will present on some of the new tools in the Visual Studio IDE Toolbox.

One lucky attendee will walk away with a copy of "Ready to Launch", which will contain the Full/Final Version of Visual Studio 2005 Professional along with SQL 2005. So get ready to rumble.

eCarnival Sri Lanka 2005

Our User Group guys along with the MVPs did a splendid job, running the .NET Forum / MVP stall at the eCarnival Exhibition held from 2nd ~ 4th December 2005. It was a pretty exciting exhibition, though a majority of the stalls were related to computer hardware/peripheral sales. Our stall anyway was pretty cool. Always occupied with a few people who walked in to checkout the Office 12 Beta that was on display, along with build 5112 of Vista and the Express Editions of Visual Studio. The MVPs: Wela, Ruwan, Jinath, Buddhike & myself, were assisted by the enthusiastic members of the User Group & Forum. Razor, Shafraz, Dinesh, Ludmal, Chandana, Charith & Fiqri along with some of the MSFT Student Champs.

A prize giving session was held at the show, and Microsoft gave away the "Get Ready for Lanuch" pack which contained a full version of the Visual Studio 2005 Professional and SQL Server 2005. I wonder if those who won, would put them into real use. Thats almost US$ 700.. mind you!

This same pack could be won by one lucky person who will attend today's (7th December 2005) User Group Meeting at Gateway at 6.00 pm.

At the meantime, I happened to quickly rip off some videos taken off Wela's handy cam, to produce a short (2:48 min) video clip (on Microsoft Move Maker 2.1), which is available through Wela's blog or My Blog.

Superhero: India's Visual Studio Launch Tour Song

Now every country where Microsoft strongly makes their presence felt, has got into the hype of developing songs and videos to co-incide with the Visual Studio 2005 launch tour. And this time, its India's turn. Here's there song titled "Superhero" done by a band called "Parikrama". The song has a little funky touch put on, on top of the rock beats. If you think you like the lyrics, then go download it from: http://www.microsoft.com/india/ready2005/song/default.aspx

Here are the lyrics:

Superhero

Springs up from the bed with a crossword in his head,
A shiver shakes his spine thinking what the boss said,
Feeling like a mouse in the tiger’s den (ah right)
Missed the bus again, runs all the way to work,
Prays to all his Gods, even Captain Kirk,
Hoping he can make it in time for the bumpy ride.

(Pre-chorus)
Opens all the windows, as he shuts the door,
As the magic begins to flow, out to the fore

(Chorus)
He’s no less than a super hero
can’t make him fall
Ones and zeroes, threes and fours
But not that bad a guy after all

Afternoon comes when everyone eats,
Staring down at lines on his L.C.D screen,
Cracking up the code, faster than the speed of light.

Evening bells ringing, had to meet his date,
Digits on his hand will have to make her wait,
Smiles at his phone, then tosses it aside.

(Pre-chorus)

(Chorus)

Man... I cant wait to hear a Sri lankan song. Anybody to take the challenge? Its gotta be Sriyan! But it surely looks a very interesting beginning. It at least helps you to digest the motive behind having such a program.

Here it goes, as found in the<a href="<A href='http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=6pt6l4i11chjd?tname=microsoft-mvp&curtab=2222_1&hl=mvp&sbid=lc03b">Answers.Com'>http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=6pt6l4i11chjd?tname=microsoft-mvp&curtab=2222_1&hl=mvp&sbid=lc03b"> Answers.com wikipedia</a>.

Way back in the dark ages, Microsoft provided a great deal of technical support on CompuServe. The CompuServe FoxPro forum was extremely busy and Calvin Hsia, then an independent developer, now Developer Lead on the Fox team, created what we called "Calvin's List." It was a listing of the number of postings by person, including info on both messages sent and received. Being in the top 10 on Calvin's List any month was an accomplishment, though we discussed whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.
As the story goes, some of the Microsoft people jumped on Calvin's List as a way to identify high contributors, and thus was born the MVP program.

"Cider" the Visual Designer for WPF in Visual Studio

Cider: is the Visual Studio tool that will help design Avalon Forms (Windows Presentation Foundation) through the Visual Studio IDE.
It is revealed that "Cider" (though it sounds like an alcoholic drink) will resemble the Windows forms designer.

An overview of the concept is uncovered in the latest MSDN-TV episode by Mark Boulter and Mike Harsh, dated 20th October 2005. They also take a quick look at "Sparkle" in this episode.
